The Cotton Room

The Cotton Room, located at the heart of the Golden Belt campus, was originally built in 1900 as a textile factory. Now, it serves as one of the Triangles’ most sought-after wedding and event venues, as well as the first gold-certified LEED historic site in the Southeast. Renovations to this space consist of the addition of a new, custom 24- foot by 9- foot bar area, a back-of-house storage room, and new equipment.

Continuity between new additions and the historic aesthetic of the space was a key element in this renovation. The storage room is placed front and center in the venue and serves not only as a space to store furniture and decorations but also as a backdrop for events. To accommodate the practical and aesthetic needs of the space, two pairs of customized 14-foot-high barn doors leading into the storage room were installed. The custom bar front reflects the design of the barn doors, while industrial-inspired shelving on the back wall of the bar was designed to coordinate with the original finishes in the space.
