Greene Residence Hall

MHAworks completed extensive renovations to both life safety and interiors of Greene Residence Hall at East Carolina University, 10-story high-rise residence hall built in 1969.

The work was completed in one phase and included ADA and high-rise code compliance; remodeling of the ground floor entry and common spaces; renovation of resident rooms, bathrooms, study lounges, and corridors; relocation of laundry facilities; fireproofing of the entire primary structural frame; upgrades to the electrical grounding; replacement of walls, plumbing, and finishes throughout the building; and replacement of the roof membrane.

Life safety design work included an addressable voice evacuation fire alarm, fire protection system upgrades and modifications, installation of new elevator smoke guards on all floors, life safety lighting upgrades, and modifications to existing generator power branches to meet NEC requirements.

The renovation also involved the recladding of the exterior façades and the removal of the entire exterior wall assembly and constructed a new envelope that is energy efficient.
