Creedmoor, NC – Creedmoor Mayor Bobby Wheeler, Designers, Contractors, Architects, and several City of Creedmoor Chairs, Commissioners and other Community Members recently met to break ground on the soon-to-be-renovated Creedmoor Community Center. Plans for this facility include the renovation of the Senior Center portions of the building as well as the construction of a new Gymnasium. It will be funded in part by a $500,000 grant from the NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF).
Creedmoor Mayor Bobby Wheeler expressed his excitement for the project, noting that as a small child he used to play basketball in the current building. It is his vision, as well as many others’ on the City Board and Parks and Recreation Committee that this new facility will serve all age groups in the Creedmoor area and be a destination for fun and entertainment for generations to come.
“This project is all about the community here in Creedmoor,” MHAworks project manager Bill McCaffrey said at the groundbreaking. “Everyone involved is trying to make a space that the next generation can be proud of.”
In March of 2018, the Creedmoor Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the design of the new facility. The work includes the renovation of the existing Senior Center which will feature a large multipurpose room, a dividable classroom, and dining area with a small kitchen. The new gymnasium will feature a full basketball court, scoreboard, restrooms, lobby area, storage rooms, and an upstairs track overlooking the court below.
