Alicia Hylton-Daniel has recently debuted the 1107 Fairview property in Durham, subsequently earning her a spot in North Carolina Modernist Houses (NCMH)’s NC Architects and Designers archive. Alicia is among 101 architects and designers working in the Triangle to be featured in this archive.
1107 Fairview in Durham was designed and built by Alicia and her husband in 2017. The property was initially abandoned until they decided to “flip” it. They encountered several challenges along the way, such as the house being extremely narrow and difficult to renovate, and the ultimate inability to add a second floor that met the city’s requirements. However, Alicia decided to draw up the floor layout and how she would see herself living in this space, and the design just clicked. The house is 1,210 square feet with 2 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, and is located in one of the trendiest areas in the state.
Alicia says, “It was a great experience, though daunting at times, as it took up all my evenings, weekends, and often my lunch hours!” MHAworks is extremely proud of Alicia for this accomplishment, and we are honored to see her designs come to life.
