Durham County Criminal Justice Resource Center

Durham, NC

This project consists of the renovation of the existing 40,600 s.f. Criminal Justice Resource Center Building in the Downtown Historic District of Durham, North Carolina. Formerly the Durham Jail Annex, the third floor of this building was completely renovated, and is slated to be Durham County’s first LEED-CI certified project. Renovations included selective demolition throughout, implementation of a bright modern office aesthetic with daylighting and low-emitting materials, and upgrades to restrooms and building technology. Building envelope improvements consisted of the replacement of all exterior glazing with insulated glazing panels, historic steel sash frame rehabilitation, increased perimeter insulation, and exterior concrete repair and waterproofing. Being fully-occupied during construction, MHAworks phased the design of this project to minimize downtime and maximize occupant productivity and comfort during construction to the greatest extent possible.
